Feltmaking in the South of France with Liz Clay

A unique opportunity to learn the ancient craft of handmade felt with international textile designer Liz Clay. Take inspiration from the stunningly beautiful Languedoc countryside and incorporate the textures and colours from the surrounding landscape into your own textile art. Liz will show you how to paint with wool and magically create your own fabric using hand dyed wools, silks and other natural fibres. This diverse craft will both surprise and delight. Create a unique accessory to wear or something special for your home. A fascinating course that is suitable for all and guaranteed to inspire you to be creative in ways you never imagined.

Schedule

During the first part of the course Liz will introduce the various fibres and demonstrate a range of simple techniques for you to use. You will be guided in hand carding and blending of fibres and encouraged to create your own special palette of colours. The aim of these two days is build your confidence in working with fibres and to create a collection of hand felted samples.

Mid-week there will a day for an optional study field trip or free time to develop your new skills. This is an opportunity to visit places of interest or take a walk along the Canal du Midi to inspire your project. During the evening Liz will be available to discuss ideas and advise with preparations for the following two days.

The second part of the week will be devoted to your final art piece with individual tutorials and supervision of your personal projects.
A mini exhibition of work will be shown on Friday evening.

Artist profile

Liz Clay is an internationally renowned textile artist who specialises in handmade felt for couture garments and other niche products. She is an experienced teacher and University lecturer and author of Nuno Felt, a book devoted to this fascinating feltmaking technique.

Prices

The cost of this all inclusive course is £695 per person, shared room (Single supplement £160) Price includes 6 nights accommodation, tuition from Liz Clay, all meals, wine with dinner. It does not include flights.
